Groundwater Heat Pump

The groundwater heat pump is the most efficient heat pump. It is cost-efficient to operate and consumes little electricity. A groundwater heat pump requires access to groundwater. If you do have access to groundwater, the groundwater heat pump is a suitable solution for terraced and apartment houses, thanks to its space-saving installation and high energy efficiency.

Highly efficient

The groundwater heat pump offers consistently high efficiency, as the temperature of the groundwater (which is the energy source) remains constant.

Cost-effective operation

The operation of a groundwater heat pump is economical, as the constant temperature of the groundwater means that little electricity is required.

Virtually silent

The groundwater heat pump is virtually silent, as it has no built-in fans.

Efficient solution where groundwater is available

Groundwater heat pumps use energy from groundwater to provide heat. However, they can only be used in certain areas of Switzerland. In order for a groundwater heat pump to be installed, the property must have access to groundwater, and you will need permission from your canton to make use of it. Once these requirements have been met, the construction work can begin: Two wells are drilled down into the groundwater layer a certain distance apart. One well is used for extracting water, and the other for returning it. The heat pump itself is installed inside the house.

How much does it cost to run a groundwater probe heat pump?

As the groundwater heat pump is the most efficient of all heat pump types, electricity costs are low, especially in comparison to the air/water heat pump. Therefore, the high installation costs are worthwhile, especially where extensive heating is required, as a lot of energy can be saved in this regard. For an average single-family home, the investment cost for a groundwater heat pump is approximately CHF 75,000, and a large part of this cost is from the drilling to obtain groundwater access. In order to find the right and the most economical solution for your situation, these investments must be weighed against the subsequent low operating costs.
